-The "Rising Star" competition, was introduced in 1999 for quartets whose members are under-25 years old. It was also held as part of convention from 2009 until 2012 but due to scheduling and cost constraints is now held independently again.

It was originally held in conjunction with the Sweet Adelines summer International Education Symposium, then was held as part of the international convention from 2009 until 2012, and due to scheduling and cost constraints is now held in the summer.  In 2014-2016 it was held as part of a regional summer music camp.  In 2017, the event will again be held during the International Education Symposium.
