Mid-Atlantic District

District Geography

The Mid-Atlantic District covers all of New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, the Eastern portion of Pennsylvania, the Northern portion of Virginia, and South western New York.

Chapters

The Mid-Atlantic District is made up of almost 100 chapters. A chapter may field a chorus to compete in Mid-Atlantic District contests. Not all chapters in the Mid-Atlantic District compete at contests.

Divisions

As of 2016, the Mid-Atlantic District has three Divisions: Northern, Central, and Southern. Each Division holds an annual convention/contest where District quartets and choruses compete to qualify for the Fall District contest.

Contests

Each year, the District holds 6 sanctioned contests.

Prelims Contest

The District Prelims contest is an "open" quartet-only contest in that any registered quartet from the District can enter. Quartets that achieve a certain score (Currently 76% and higher) qualify to compete at the International contest at Prelims.

Divison Contests

Division contests are also considered "open" contests because any registered quartet or chorus can enter. One contest is held in each Division annually.

District Contest

The District contest is an "invitational" contest. Quartets and choruses are invited based on their performance at previous contests. Any quartet that has posted a score high enough to qualify for International garners an automatic invitation, without having to compete at a Division contest. All other groups are invited based on their performances at the Division contests. Plateau designations were no longer awarded at the District chorus competitions after 2005.

Choruses compete at the District contest for the right to represent the Mid-Atlantic District at the International contest.
