WJBC Radio began operating in Bloomington in 1925. The Bloomington Barbershop Chapter formed 17 years later. No one is certain when the first live airing of barber shop occurred on WJBC, but a photo of a live Christmas season performance in 1952 on the steps of the McLean County Courthouse (now the McLean County Museum of History) is one of the earliest.
