Nightlife first got together in 1988 with Dan Jordan of [[The New Tradition]] on lead and Brian Philbin of [[Metropolis]] on bass.  They placed 2nd in the fall contest.  In 1989, Brett came on as bass, and they were 3rd that October.  John joined the quartet in the fall of 1990 (they did not compete that year) and in the fall of 1991 won the [[Far Western District]] Quartet Championship.

In the International competitions which followed, the quartet quickly achieved success as well, winning two bronze medals and a silver. But, in July, 1996, Nightlife reached the pinnacle of success by being declared the new International Quartet Champion.
