HOA has been bellringing to raise funds for the Salvation Army since 1959. For many years the chorus braved the elements outside Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store, before eventually moving inside, performing at various shopping malls. More recently, the chorus has begun visiting multiple retirement communities, in an all-day marathon called the Caroling Caravan. For the past few years, these efforts have raised more money for the Salvation Army than any other single-day event in the Kansas City area.

In 2014, Dan Henry Bowser was named Bellringer Emeritus, for his decades of service.
