History
Named after Denver's official "mile high" elevation, 52eighty has close ties to the Sound of the Rockies chorus (BHS Mile High chapter).
The chorus was formed in late 2008, and is made up of young men from three Denver-area Barbershop Harmony Society choruses (Sound of the Rockies, Longs Peak Chorus, and the Denver MountainAires), as well as students from local high schools, colleges and universities. The Sound of the Rockies chorus sponsors 52eighty, providing fundraising and leadership support.
Jay Dougherty is 52eighty's current director. The chorus is currently (in Fall 2011) preparing to compete in the 5th Annual International Youth Chorus Festival, January 21, 2012, in Tucson, Arizona.
